  • Lightning sparks fire near Delmoe Lake

    Lighting was the cause of the McClusky Fire that started August 16 approximately three miles northeast of Delmoe Lake and 13 miles northwest of Whitehall. The fire is burning in lodgepole pine in steep, rugged, inaccessible terrain with high concentrations of standing dead trees and logs on the ground. This poses an excessive safety risk to firefighters. As of press deadline Tuesday afternoon, the fire is estimated to be 70 acres in size and is 0 percent contained.     Whitehall area residents will get to enjoy "The Merry Wives of Windsor" next week. The 2019 Montana Shakespeare in the Park performance is scheduled for Thursday, August 29 at 6 p.m. at the Whitehall baseball fields.     It's once again time for the Jefferson County Fair. The annual event is scheduled to take place August 21 to 25 at the Jefferson County Recreation Park one-half mile south of Boulder. Dubbed "A Fair of the Heart", this is the 36th Jefferson County Fair. There is free admission with a $2 parking fee.     Whitehall High School is hosting its annual Purple and Gold Scrimmage Friday night, August 23rd. This event is a kick off for fall sports.     With the start of the school year approaching I started to rack my brain about some first day memories but there was not really anything that stood out.     The Gallatin Valley Outlaws were well represented on the 2019 Universal Athletic American Legion All State and All Conference Teams. Seniors Hunter Johnson of Three Forks and Michael Nehring of Manhattan were both named to the Southern District All State and All Conference teams.
