After deer and elk permits were drawn Thursday, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks uncovered an error in the drawing process affecting less than three percent of applications across the state in 10 hunting districts. New officers and board members were elected, while several vacated their positions with much respect and gratitude. Montana’s unemployment rate hit a 14-year low, dropping to 3.5% in August. I rarely get upset about politics to the point that I am vocal about them. With Christmas falling on a Tuesday in 2018, I really needed to be on top of things so that I could have the newspaper sent to the printer by early on Christmas Eve. A system error led to an unexpected lockdown December 12 for K-12 students in Whitehall. Superintendent John Sullivan said once they once they determined the lockout alert was not caused by a real threat, students and teachers were informed a system error was causing the problem. He added this happened within minutes of the alarm sounding. I’m proud to say I’m a huge fan of the schools in Whitehall. I think the teachers, staff, administration and board work together in unison to create something special. I’m also very high on the district where I grew up in Wyoming and although it is much larger, they do an outstanding job.
