Between the Stacks

The History Book Club will be meeting October 30 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss “The Monument’s Men”. Next month they will be discussing the Library of America’s World War I reader. If you would like to join the November discussion, please let the staff know so there are enough copies of the stories for everyone.

November will be a recognition of our veterans through a number of different programs. Special programming will include:

Nov. 1 6:30 Bill Carhuff Whitehall Veteran Stories”

Nov. 8 6:30 Arlene Weber

“WWI in Whitehall”

Nov. 15 6:30 Veterans Panel “Remembering When”

Nov. 27 6:30 History Book Club “America and WWI Reader”

Nov. 29 6:30 Donna Weldon & Friends “WWI Music Night”

These programs are all free and open to the public. There will be more information about each individual program during the month. If you would like a complete calendar of all the month’s activities, just stop by the front desk and pick one up.

The first program will be Bill Carhuff sharing the lives of 18 young Whitehall veterans who gave everything for their country. Their stories will be shared in a question and answer format, with the lives of each one illustrated through pictures, stories, and memories. It will be upstairs in the Library beginning at 6:30 p.m. on November 1.

Great classes to watch out for include Holiday Art Camp, beginning November 27 at 4:00 p.m. for children not in the after-school program and Thursdays at 4:00 p.m. for the school. The Library will provide all of the materials so come and enjoy this creative time.

Story Time will be continuing with special musical and holiday programs. Don’t forget the Musical Story Time with Donna Weldon every second Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.

New books and movies are constantly being added to the collection so stop in and check out the new book shelves. Also, the Early Readers section and the Juvenile Graphic novels have switched places. If you have any difficulty finding things, please ask the staff. They are more than willing to assist you.
