Trojans finally open 2018 track season

After having their first three meets of the season cancelled due to inclement weather conditions, the Whitehall High School track team was finally able to start their 2018 season at a meet last Saturday in Belgrade.

"It was nice to finally get out and enjoy some competition and the weather was perfect for it," head coach Dan Lacey said. "I thought overall we did a great job both the boys and the girls had athletes that placed and there were a bunch of teams competing."

The Trojans were led by Braden Smith who won the triple jump with a mark of 42' 9.75". Lacey said that is currently the longest jump in Class B this season and qualified him for the state meet. Lacey added Max Feight also ran well in the 110 hurdles qualifying with a 16.13, and placed third in the 300 hurdles, just missing he qualifying time. Lacey said the 4x400 relay team placed third. The members of the team are Feight, Steven Japhet, Smith, and Justin Gipson.

On the girl's side, Lacey said Stephanie Strong and Alexys Mercer both placed in the discus and shot put events.

"We're are glad to finally get the first meet for us in and get some times and marks to improve on heading into our next track meet in Livingston Thursday. I'm excited to see the improvements and look forward to seeing our athletes compete to better their times and marks," Lacey said.

Feight (300 hurdles) and Smith (triple jump) competed Tuesday in the Top 10 Event in Missoula (See details online.). The Trojans will also compete Saturday in Bozeman.
