Town moving operations to former ambulance barn

The Whitehall governing body voted Monday to move town offices and public works operations to the former ambulance barn located at 207 E. Legion.

The Council voted 4-1 to approve the measure. Jason Good, Montina Rawson, Barbara Gagnon, and Gary Housman all voted in favor of the measure. Francine Giono-Janik was the lone dissenting vote.

During her monthly report, Mayor Mary Janacaro Hensleigh said they had been working with the Jefferson Valley Rural Ambulance District to allow them to use the building, but they have withdrawn their proposal. She said her plan is to move forward with “plan B”, which is to move town hall and public works to the location. Janacaro Hensleigh checked with the town engineer and was told it was very suitable to move to the building and plans are to also have water treatment in the same building in the future.

“It’s a big step. It will take a lot work, but it will save the town money,” she said.

The town will be advertising a request for proposal for their current town hall located at 2 North Whitehall St.
