Editorial: Booster club an asset to students, community

It's hard to believe, but the opening of fall practice for the three Whitehall High School sports teams is less than a month away.

While the teams will be working hard to get ready for competition, the Whitehall High School Booster Club will bring the community together for their annual Pre-season barbecue. The event scheduled for August 17 will follow the annual Purple and Gold football and volleyball scrimmages.

This is a time of the year for the club to raise donations for the 2018-19 school year.

Booster club member Joy Smith was all smiles holding the pig at an event last year.

For those that do not know a lot about the Whitehall High School Booster Club, they do a tremendous job supporting the extracurricular activities at the school. They go above and beyond to decorate, support, and help to make events more fun. Club member Joy Smith recently told the Ledger they want to not only be a positivie for the kids, they want school activities to encompass the community as a whole. Her words ring very true for what an amazing job members do.

The club will also give back to the students in other ways, including the recent large donation of a "Dr. Dish" shooting machine for the basketball programs. This will be nothing but a boon to the two programs and can be used to improve the shooting of athletes from a young age. It's also not just sports; they do a great job supporting speech, band, drama and other activities as well.

In the next few weeks, look for more about joining the club in the pages of the Ledger. It is a donation that is well utilized and well deserved by students.

The club generally meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the school library.
