Op-Ed: We Need to Form a More Perfect Union

In last week’s paper I read a rather long Op-Ed from Jim Buterbaugh entitled “The Hate I See is Sad.” I agree with Jim that there is a great deal of hate in this country right now. In the last five years FBI data shows a marked increase in anti-Asian crime, anti-Jewish crime, and anti-LGBTQ crime. Of the more than 11,000 hate crimes reported to the FBI in 2023 over half of them were anti-Black crimes. Clearly we have a problem in this country with hate.
