Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Ribbons, Prizes, and Smiles - All Guaranteed at the Jefferson County Fair!

Calling all parents and grandparents! Time to get your kids’ exhibits ready for “A Fair of the Heart,” the Jefferson County Fair, August 25-28, at the Jefferson County Recreation Park one-half mile south of Boulder. Every exhibit gets a ribbon and there are cash prizes for purple, heart, and best in show ribbons.

Fair events and contests include:

· Art, photography, crafts, cooking, sewing, canning: you name it, we have a category for it or we will make one up. See the fair book for entry ideas. People can enter exhibits in the fair no matter where they live. There is no charge to enter.

· The kids’ horse show and rodeo, starting at 9 AM Friday, August 26. Due to limited arena space, only Jefferson County residents are eligible to enter.

Contestants are charged $5 per child to enter. Don’t have a horse? No problem, come and watch the show for free.

· The kids’ parade is on Friday, August 26, starting at 11 AM. Kids dressed in costume line up 10 minutes before noon, walk down Main Street to an admiring crowd and get a prize and a ribbon. This is a fun, easy way to be a part of the fair and your kids will love it.

· The coloring contest. Coloring contest sheets are in the fair book in local businesses and at jeffersonmtfairrodeo.org. Bring to the fair by 2 pm, Friday, August 26.

· The cabbage contest. Use cabbage to create an animal, insect, or whatever the imagination devises. Bring it to the fair by 9:30 AM, Saturday, August 27.

· The stick horse rodeo. This lively event for little buckaroos is held on Sunday, August 28, at 11 AM. Kids six and under compete for ribbons, prizes, a stick horse, and the Paula Heide Memorial silver belt buckle. Sign up Sunday, August 28, between 10:15 and 10:45 AM.

· The Hunt in the Hay. Hundreds of prizes are hidden under a pile of hay. Kids dive in for free treats and special prizes at noon on Sunday, August 28. Prizes are courtesy of the See N Save, Boulder’s community thrift store.

Large inflatable slides and climbers are free for kids on Saturday and Sunday of the fair.

Saturday night’s family-friendly, a real barn dance with The Longhorn Band, costs just $2 admission. Ride the Boulder River Carousel for a quarter, watch the Toni Person puppet show, enjoy delicious fair food, see 4-H animals and hear live music. The Jefferson County Fair and Rodeo is guaranteed to end summer vacation with a smile.

Information on how to enter and a schedule of events is in the fair book at local businesses and at jeffersonmtfairrodeo.org.
