He was a Republican. A homesteader. Father. Lawyer. County Attorney. A well-respected district judge. He had an "unblemished judicial record." Senator Burton K. Wheeler described him as a "fine and honorable man."

He lived in Forsyth. He was impeached. In 1918, the Montana Senate held a trial. It convicted him and disqualified him from ever holding public office again.
