Whitehall Garden Club News: May

At the starting gates were Kay Fisher, Rob Finney, and Karen Ranta as a substitute jockey with Janet Finney as a contributor but nonrunner during the race. With the excitement of the Kentucky Derby, this aforementioned group delivered across-the-board delicious trifecta brunch items that made the crowd whinny with delight! Beautifully painted horse-shaped, melt-in-your-mouth sugar cookies, Glorious Morning Muffins, so moist and full of garden goodness, and a scrumptious pasta salad. Added to the mix was a beautiful meat and cheese platter from Jefferson Fresh Foods to ensure we had enough "Forte" to gallop through the upcoming meeting. Did I mention the mint juleps? We thought we had been transported to Churchill Downs! And that my friends was just the pre-race fare! Tally Ho!

The meeting was called to order by President Kathy Ross. The room was packed and for good reason. What a meeting it was! Starting off with the FAST 10 MINUTES, Kathy Ross shared how to create papier mache (over a blown-up balloon) garden lanterns to spruce up any outside party. Next, Ron Roginske shared Recycling information with Alfred the orangutan, helping him.

Do you know that there are many recycling opportunities at the Whitehall "dump" and also in Boulder at their transfer site? It was a great reminder of how all of us can recycle with relative ease.

The guest speaker this month was Abi Saeed, MSU Horticulturist Specialist bringing her expertise on Xeriscaping. Abi's presentation was excellent, full of information by introducing the 7 Principles of Xeriscaping. She held her audience captive as we were all applying her information to our own specific gardens, yards, and landscaping, small or large!
