Op Ed: What Are The Midterms Really About?

I have listened to and lived by the two-parent work ethic all my life. Wondering, like everyone else, how my parents and grandparents did it. I reasoned that there wasn't all this computer/phone technology to waste money on, which now seems like a necessity.

So let's look at this. What was it like when ol' mom and pop were around? Back in the 1960s and 70s? Detroit had the highest per-capita income. Yes, the same Detroit that now is looking for people to take possession of an abandoned house. How was this? Easy for me to say. Detroit and the surrounding area were where auto companies were building their cars. Thousands of jobs and businesses depended on that. Same with the steel mills. The shipbuilders and drydock companies. Where did these jobs go?

Globalist. Our politicians sold us a bill of lies. They convinced us that global trade agreements would be healthy for the planet and all would prosper (cough cough choke).

All these trade agreements sent OUR industries offshore. We suffered; other countries prospered by selling us what we used to create. They cut our abilities with cheap labor and often inferior products. In the 1960s, one in three Americans worked in manufacturing. These jobs, mostly union jobs, paid well. After the "free trade" agreements, one in twelve Americans makes things. Free Trade indeed. Once free trade deals destroyed our industries, our middle class followed.

Then came the bank debacle. The Too-Big-to-Fail" era of 2008. Where international speculators overextended, and the major banks were on the verge of collapse. Which is what happens when you or I take a chance with investments. But the banks? Here come our tax dollars to the rescue. President Bush, with all of his political brilliance (cough cough choke) declared the banks too big to allow to fail and gave millions and millions of our tax dollars to save them. Same with our domestic car companies. Only Ford turned down the government's offer to keep it afloat. Guess what brand I own.

Sometime in the 1970s (?) I remember Chrysler going under and asking for help. The government responded by purchasing an amount of military and government vehicles

from them. Not a bailout, to say, but an earn-out.

Okay, back to today. I have watched over the decades as ALL of our affordable jobs went beyond our borders. I have lived the aftermath of sending high-paying jobs to China, Japan, Vietnam, North Dakota, and elsewhere. As the service industry and government became the main money makers in the United States, the pay scale went down the tubes. As government jobs grew, so did taxes on those earning less. Once again, the government is the problem, not the cure. More government is never the cure.

When they sit on TV and tout that they have the answer, when they say, "Vote for me; I have the answers," they lie. If their answer is more government involvement, RUN, don't walk the other way. A growing government is what is killing this country.

How do we fix this? Luckily, it is already happening.

All you Trump haters out there are so busy fighting anything and everything he does that you are missing what he is doing.

Now, I figure many of you reading this just tuned out because of that statement. If that's you, take a breath, swallow that bit of throw-up in your mouth, and read on.

Since World War I and especially after WWII, industrialization flourished in the United States. Making us the wealthiest country at the time. Now, the globalists can't have that. And they lobbied, connived, and lied to send our wealth around the world and leave us to scrimp. Politicians would like you to think that it's the fault of the rich.

The Oligarchs. There's a word that the have-nots latched on to. A word pushed by the political rich.

Lemmings. Now, brace yourselves. President Trump has spoken of this for decades. Way before democrats hated him. Trump tariffs. Villainized by many. What did they do? It brought home billions in factory construction, reshored supply chains instead of depending on countries that wish us ill will. High-paying factory jobs. High-paying auto plant jobs. Blue-collar pay rises. Creates apprenticeship jobs. Skilled trades jobs. Do you know that right now our submarine fleet is waiting for refit because we do not have skilled craftsmen to accomplish even that much? Globalization. Gutting America one lie at a time. What does all this reshoring of trades and construction mean in dollars? Tariffs have created trillions in new capital for shipyards, auto industry, steel mills, critical minerals, computer chips, etc.

President Trump is reducing unnecessary legislation created during past administrations that forced us into unreliable, expensive, wasteful green energy.

He has reduced wasteful spending on organizations like NATO and the United Nations, which have done nothing to protect the world from wars. This was supposed to be the main reason for their existence, and the NGOs used our tax dollars like a slush fund. President Trump has taken on big pharma, reducing drug costs nationwide. Even the states that have sued everything Trump has signed on. Busting up cartels. Putting a thumb on big ag. With borders secured, fentanyl deaths are down. Crossings by illegals are almost non-existent. His FBI is pursuing and prosecuting those who abuse government programs. Under his leadership, criminal illegals are being swept off the streets.

Everything that the Globalist in our government and abroad tried to kill off in the United States.

And THAT is why the midterms matter. If Republicans lose the House and Senate, it would stop all this cold in its tracks. And when you vote, make damn sure the candidate's record matches what they say. Our choice is to move forward after decades of decline or return to the Biden years of crazy B.S. that does nothing to make our lives better.

Now...the wife took note of me using North Dakota with China and others. Afraid that some of you might take offense. If you take offense, go to the store and buy a can of sense of humor. If you get offended by the rest of this...I don't know what to tell ya.

Except stop with the party narrative and look at what is going on. Next time you go to a "No Kings" rally, remember everything the Biden administration put this nation through for four unconscious years.
