    In May of 2018, 10-year-old cousins Avery Kohl and Lydia Chaffin both tragically passed away in a UTV accident in Idaho. Throughout their lives, both made a tremendous impact on those they crossed paths with which included Tony, Trish, and Evelinn Scarborough of Whitehall.     It was a busy year in 2019 for the Whitehall Schools. In April, the school board voted 6-0 in favor of hiring current high school principal Hannah Nieskens as the new Superintendent. She took over for John Sullivan who resigned at the end of the summer.     Paintings by the late artist Don Waltee are on display at Whitehall Town Hall located at 207 E. Legion. Waltee was born on a dairy farm in northern Michigan and moved to Butte at the age of 11. He joined the Navy after high school and returned to Butte. Later he and his wife Glenna moved to Alaska and spent the next 30 years on job assignments all over the country.     There were plenty of positives for Whitehall High School sports in 2019. The highlight of the year came in February when senior Connor Johnson captured the 132-pound state title with a win by fall 46 seconds into his finals match against Nathan Schmidt of Eureka.
