    A new restaurant opened earlier this week in downtown Whitehall. Chuchos Tacos served their first customers Monday at the business located at 14 East Legion Avenue. The restaurant is owned by Heather Fortin and Dawnie Cox, and will be open during lunch until next week. They will then be open Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The current menu features both taco and burritos. Cox described their cuisine as Southern California Baja Mexican food.     Local voters will have a chance to decide if they want an ambulance district in Jefferson County. At their meeting last week, the Jefferson County Commissioners voted 3-0 to approve Resolution 14-2017, Calling for an Election Regarding the Formation of an Ambulance District in the Whitehall area and the Election of a Board of Trustees. The Commissioners also voted 3-0 to approve Resolution 15-2017, Setting the Qualifications and Duties of the Ambulance Board of Trustees.     Local musicians will be taking to the stage this Saturday, July 12 at the Lewis and Clark Caverns. A total of 35 students officially became high school students at the annual 8th Grade Promotion that took place May 31 in Varsity Gym.     With just one hotel in town, local resident Mary Janacaro Hensleigh saw a need for more accommodations in Whitehall.     10 Whitehall High School graduate Bryn Welker was recently awarded the $1,000 Whitehall American Legion Post #24 and VFW Post #4603 Dennis Smith Memorial Scholarship. Post member Roger Steerman surprised Welker with the news of the scholarship on her last day of school in May. Welker will be attending Montana State University where she will be studying astrophysics.     A newly hired head coach will bring a wealth of experience and a history of success to the Whitehall High School Girls Basketball team. Kelly Nieskens was recently hired to take over for Herman Gerving, who resigned at the end of the 2016-17 season. Nieskens was the head coach at Wolf Point High School for five years, and during this time won the 2011 MHSA Class B State Championship.     Three Whitehall teenagers are heading to the National Junior High Rodeo scheduled for June 18 to 24 in Lebanon, TN. Garris Robertson, Jacy Johnson, and Brynna Wolfe all qualified at the Montana Junior High Finals May 28 and 29 in Townsend. Johnson qualified with a second place finish in pole bending.
