    A ruling is expected to be made this week that will decide the fate of a recall election for five elected officials in Whitehall. Following nearly six hours of testimony in the 5th Judicial Courtroom in Boulder last Friday; Judge Katherine Bidegaray said via a teleconference feed she would make a decision later this week.     At a special meeting last Wednesday, the Whitehall Town Council voted to suspend member Francine Giono-Janik without pay. The motion passed by the governing body states Council Member Janik will be suspended "until she fully discloses the full extent of her involvement with the installation of hidden cameras in the ambulance barn and her role as a consultant with Partners United For Life Saving Education (P.U.L.S.E.)."   • Three fires over holiday weekend

    The Whitehall Volunteer Fire Department responded to three fires over the holiday weekend. According to Fire Chief Jeremy Ward, the first fire the department responded to was Thanksgiving night at La Casa Trailer Park No. 2 in Whitehall. Ward said they were paged at 6:20 p.m., and had seven fire fighters and five trucks at the fire. He said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the trailer has mostly external damage.     Local voters may have to wait a while to cast their votes to determine if there will be a new Ambulance District in Jefferson County. An election scheduled early next year for a district proposed by members of the Jefferson Valley EMS and Rescue has been cancelled.     Last July, a herbicide was placed in the Jefferson Slough in an attempt to knockout Eurasian watermilfoil prior to a planned relocation of the Slough. According to Jefferson County Weed Coordinator Jill Allen, Dr. Ryan Thum of Montana State University and students from the School’s Plant Science and Plant Pathology Department did the monitoring of the application.     Hi Folks, At our regular meeting last week, we held a Public Hearing and approved Resolution 34-2016 which amends our Budget. This became necessary after the Department of Revenue reached a last minute deal with Northwestern Energy to resolve some assessment issues. We requested the DOR recertify all of our values for this year. We were able to absorb most of the change by reducing some of our cash reserves.     The first case of influenza in a Jefferson County resident was confirmed last week. The adult was not hospitalized but did seek medical care for the illness. Influenza (“the flu”) is a highly contagious illness that is often recognized by its sudden onset of fever, cough, body aches, and fatigue. Statewide in recent weeks much influenza activity has been reported in Missoula County, as well as some in Flathead, Gallatin, and Park counties.     After a solid month of production in September, Barrick Golden Sunlight Mine General Manager Dan Banghart told those in attendance at last week’s Community Transition Advisory Committee meeting in Whitehall, that the production in October was not as favorable.
