    For the second straight year, Whitehall's Jacy Johnson has qualified for the National Finals in a Light Rifle Shooting Competition. The soon-to-be sophomore will be competing at the National High School Finals Rodeo next month in Rock Springs, WY.   • New activity bus arrives

    A little over a year after making the purchase, the Whitehall School Districts finally have their new activity bus. At a Board of Trustees meeting last week, Whitehall Superintendent John Sullivan gave members a tour of the new IC Bus that was purchased through Harlow's Transportation.     A new addition will be quite the asset to the Piedmont Family Fishing Pond. Last week an all-concrete picnic shelter was delivered and set up at the site two miles from downtown Whitehall. According to Joe Dillon and Grant Godbolt of the Jefferson Valley Sportsmen Association, they used money from a Community Pond Grant (from Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks), and a donation from the family of Bill Gooch to help pay for the project.     With a little over a month until the 2018 Frontier Day in Whitehall, organizers are looking for volunteers to help out at the popular two-day event. One of the most needed areas for volunteers is the Rancher's Rodeo, but help with any of the variety of scheduled events would be greatly appreciated. In a small community like Whitehall, it takes a devoted team to put together an event like Frontier Days.   • Suspect in Whitehall shooting released on bond

    A 33-year-old Butte resident arrested following a shooting late Tuesday night in Whitehall was released Wednesday on a $100,000 bond. Daniel Adams was changed with attempted deliberate homicide in a shooting that was reported to have taken place during an altercation in an alleyway in the south area of town at 10:55 p.m. According to Jefferson County Sheriff Craig Doolittle, a 33-year-old victim was shot with a small-caliber handgun.
