Eight years ago, I took a leap of faith and founded We Are HER. What started as a small blog where survivors shared their stories anonymously has grown into a wonderful community dedicated to healing, connection, and empowerment. It's hard to believe how far we've come, and I am so proud to know everyone who has become a part of the We Are HER family. Over the past eight years, we've shared countless stories, fostered a safe space for survivors to connect, and provided education and resources...
October is the official beginning of spooky season...it is when we place sheets on our pets and pumpkins on our heads for themed photo sessions. You can find us binge watching our favorite scary movies and splurging on our favorite fall drinks. We embrace the falling leaves, crisp mornings, and long evenings. It is a time for softening, slowing down, and resting. October is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It is a time of purple ribbons and fundraising events. It adds an extra layer of...

Even though I've dedicated my life to the concept of healing, after graduate school classes and lived experience, I realized just how hard of a topic this is to cover. It was important to me to share just how hard it is for a survivor to heal, and I hope that by learning about domestic violence, you understand how complex this topic is. In order for me to share what healing is, I decided to go inward. Here is a piece of my story. Here is what healing means to me. When I first started "healing,"...
Join Whitehall/Cardwell non-profit We Are HER for a free workshop on unpacking shame: What we never talk about in regard to shame is where it stems from and how many of us were dealing with it at a young age. Many of us have been navigating life with a subconscious level of internalized shame. It is what keeps us in cycles and attached to relationships and places that no longer align with us. It is time to peel back the layers we have been operating with and really understand where this shame...
We Are HER is a non-profit based out of Cardwell that helps survivors of abuse or assault heal after trauma. Today I’d like to discuss healing. While I won’t get into any explicit details on trauma, I do want to issue a trigger warning to those in the audience as I will be defining different aspects of intimate partner violence. But first, I want to start by defining what a survivor is. Before I started doing this work, I remember my college showed us a PSA of a survivor. This woman had a bla...

Because of your generosity, We Are HER can continue to make a difference in the lives of survivors. The organization is unique because it primarily provides online services to decrease barriers around access and the stigma of seeking... Full story
Wow! All I can think is just how incredibly powerful the We Are HER Community is. On May 5 and 6, We Are HER had our biggest fundraiser of the year - Give Big Gallatin Valley. During Give Big, we set the goal of raising $10,000 in 24 hours, which would be enough to cover 50 percent of our annual operating budget. At first, $10,000 seemed attainable. Last year, during Give Big, we had set out to raise $5,000 and ended up with just over $8,000. This year, we had four amazing local businesses...

On February 10th, Congress approved new legislation guaranteeing people who experience sexual harassment in the workplace the right to seek recourse through the courts. More specifically, this bill bans employment contracts from forcing people to settle sexual assault or harassment complaints through the process of arbitration rather than in court. The arbitration process almost always benefits the employer and prevents any misconduct allegations from being publicized. This measure, which is expected to be signed into law by President Biden,...
Like many businesses and organizations, we had to pivot when COVID hit last year. Through our organization We Are HER, several volunteers and I had planned a five-day retreat in Paradise Valley for 15 survivors to attend. The point of the retreat? To help survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault find healing through connection, story sharing, and education about trauma. One week before we selected the 15 survivors who would be travelling to Montana to attend our retreat, the news of the...
