    The Jefferson Valley Community Foundation strives on connecting people who care to causes that matter. Since 2002, the JVCF has awarded 80 grants to 35 organizations with a total surpassing $94,000. Last week, members of the JVCF Board were able to both hear and see how the grants had been used to benefit the community at a 2015 grantees tour.     For the past two years, softball teams from around Southwest Montana have come together for a good cause at the Whitehall Charity Softball Co-Ed Tournament. This year proceeds and food donations were given to two local pet rescue organizations. Last Thursday, tournament organizer Mikel Kelly gave 4-Paws Rescue and Patti Reed's new rescue orgnization each $325 from the tournament proceeds.     Just a few days after the annual Jefferson County Fair, organizers are pleased with the turnout at the 2016 event. "The 2016 fair was one of our best ever.     In 1956 Roy Millegan and his wife, Vera, came to Whitehall. Roy worked for the Farmer's Home Administration as the County Supervisor stationed in Whitehall, for Jefferson, Madison, Beaverhead and Silver Bow Counties. He then completed his career in 1981 as the District Supervisor out of Great Falls. Vera was busy working for Dr. Morris, the local dentist, and for Al Feldsheim at the Dry Cleaners.     The population of Whitehall grew by leaps and bounds for a night last week. Early Tuesday afternoon, an estimated 400 visitors made their way into town as part of the 2016 Cycle Greater Yellowstone Tour. According to Site Coordinator Rob Dubac, 300 to 310 cyclists, 70 volunteers, and 30 vendors were in Whitehall as part of the 511-mile tour.     Last week, a large group gathered at the Whitehall Senior Center for the Red Hat Day Brunch. The monthly event is just one of the many activities at the center.
