Not much happening this week. The school kids did make their ski trip to Great Divide last Thursday. The blizzard conditions didn’t deter them at all. They held the Spelling Bee which you can read about in this paper in its own article. The Jr. High Honor Roll was announced by teacher, Michael Coombe. A Honor students were Wyatt Biggers and Katie Whitehurst. On the B Roll were Avery Coombe, Marta Nelson, Anna Nelson and Annie Engler. Like many people around the country, I am currently watching “Victoria” on television every week. It is a wonderful historical drama about the life of Queen Victoria, one of Great Britain’s longest ruling monarchs. She was only 18 years old when she ascended the throne in June of 1837 and during her lifetime her children and grandchildren would rule over many of the countries in Europe. Victoria reigned for over sixty years until her death in 1901. She was an interesting woman who spoke English, German, French, Italian and Latin; as well as be...

A couple of weeks ago, Donna Clark’s daughter, Shelley, passed away quite suddenly. When seeking to have the obituary published in the Montana Standard we discovered that depending on the day of the week, the cost would vary. For instance, instead of $79.00 ($89.00 with a photo), it was going to $108.00 for just the obituary!! We understood that that price included the photo, (which was sent but never received). However, to have a photo along with the obit, it would be $119.00! The letter to the editor of the Standard was never published, e...

Nolan still loves to watch basketball and spends a good deal of time with Breakaway Youth Ranch where he serves on the Board of Directors. Volunteers at the Museum are really glad to have John Joy back in the mix. Health issues kept him isolated for a few months, but along with the 7 others trying to get back into their routines, he just picked up where he had left off. The key word at a museum is DETAIL! When the barn was being developed into the Museum, Roy told us that the office wasn’t big enough -- he was so right. The files grow and work space is shared and it won’t be long before that map case will getting the attention that has been so needed. The Library is looking for...

  • Principal's Principles

    Britt McLean, Whitehall K-5 Principal|Jan 11, 2017

January is a month full of cold and winter. January also reminds us of portions of our life that may need improving or revamping (New Year’s Resolutions). It is funny how motivated we are to start something new, or continue something started because of a resolution. As I pondered what my resolution should be, I was reminded of work and what was accomplished in 2016. As a professional, my goal is to help continue making Whitehall the best elementary school it can possibly become. Our students here are the best and are also why educators c...
