A new restaurant opened earlier this week in downtown Whitehall. Chuchos Tacos served their first customers Monday at the business located at 14 East Legion Avenue. The restaurant is owned by Heather Fortin and Dawnie Cox, and will be open during lunch until next week. They will then be open Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The current menu features both taco and burritos. Cox described their cuisine as Southern California Baja Mexican food. Five eighth grade graduates took their places on the platform at the Cardwell Gym to be honored for the completion of nine years of learning. Hi Folks, We held last week’s meeting at Bordon’s in Whitehall. We approved the Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan for Jefferson County. DES Coordinator, Doug Dodge has done a lot of work on this and has involved folks from all over the County. We held the final Public Hearing before we decide whether to put the creation of the Ambulance District on the ballot later this year. The Jefferson County Commission will decide later this month if local residents will have an opportunity to vote for or against the creation of the Jefferson Valley Rural Ambulance District. The deadline for the public protest form mailed to real property owners within the district in March was May 15. Officials at Barrick Golden Sunlight mine are expecting to be on target for production in the second quarter of 2017. At the Community Transition Advisory Committee meeting last Thursday, Mine General Manager Dan Banghart reported the production in April was 3,054 ounces, slightly ahead of the target of 3,000.
