  • New activity bus discussed

    Jack H. Smith, Ledger Publisher|Nov 9, 2016

At the monthly school board meeting last week, Superintendent John Sullivan approached the Whitehall School Board of Trustees about the possibility of purchasing an activity bus for the districts. Sullivan said this issue has come up more and more as the teams travel, and the current Whitehall activity bus supplied by Harlow’s was out of commission for most of October. Sullivan said fans have expressed their desire for Whitehall kids to travel in a better bus. “It’s a community pride thing. I think it’s time to explore the idea of owning...

  • Editorial: School Districts give back to Veteran's

    Jack H. Smith, Ledger Publisher|Nov 9, 2016

This week schools in both Whitehall and Cardwell will be hosting Veteran’s Day programs. The Cardwell program is scheduled for Thursday, November 10 at 1 p.m., and the Whitehall program is scheduled for Friday, November 11 at 10 a.m. in the Varsity Gym. Veteran’s Day is such an important holiday, and it really says a lot that both school districts take time to put together a special program. I attended the Whitehall program last year and was really impressed with the dedication by both students and staff members to honor those who have served o...

  • Column: Glad it's over

    Jack H. Smith, Ledger Publisher|Nov 9, 2016

At an early age, I learned that when people start talking politics, things could get ugly in a heartbeat. This happens more and more as the United States inches closer to a Presidential Election. I've seen what started out as a polite and thoughtful discussion turn sour and get to the point where I thought it was going to escalate into a Pro Wrestling match and people would start whacking each other with folding chairs. Citizens from across the nation went to the polls yesterday, and came together in the evening to watch the results of the...

  • Letter to the Editor: Is there a lesson from our team?

    Jeff Reynolds|Nov 9, 2016

I don’t know if everyone has been following our Trojans Football Team? If you haven’t they are one game away from the State Championship. Our Boys are not the biggest team in the league nor the fastest but they are a team that works together and gets it done! The boys team is 10 wins & 1 loss and have this record because they’re team players. No one is the Super Star, or the Glory Hound. They’re a team that works together for a common goal, to win for their school and for their town of Whitehall. When any team or organization or “Town C...

  • For Your Information

    Arcylle Shaw, Contributing Writer|Nov 9, 2016

The report from the Cardwell School tells us that the Student Council organized a great Halloween Carnival. Mrs Savannah Rossiter, teacher of the 1st and 2nd grades said, “I set out a bunch of decorations and art supplies and said ‘go ahead’! All of the decorating and setting up was up to them and it came together nicely. I was very pleased and impressed with all of the Student Council members. They worked hard, worked together and had great ideas throughout all of the planning stages. This group of kids are a bunch of go-getters; they are v...

  • Between the Stacks

    Jeannie Ferriss, Whitehall Community Library|Nov 9, 2016

On November 11, 1918 at 11:00 a.m. World War I Allied Supreme Commander Ferdinand Foch met with the German delegation to sign the armistice aboard his railway carriage near Compiegne, France. Although many people think of this event as the end of the First World War, it was initially a 30 day cease-fire agreement which was continually renewed until the formal signing of the peace treaty a year later. In 1954 this day was changed to honor all persons who have served in the armed forces of the United States and is celebrated as Veterans Day. In...

  • Trojan Football Team Demonstrating Character

    Glenn Marx, Contributing Writer|Nov 9, 2016

The Whitehall Trojan football team is making local sports history in an historical sports year, and demonstrating character at a time when true character seems to be lacking. In baseball, the Chicago Cubs won the 2016 World Series, and there's a pretty good chance not a single person alive in Montana ever saw that before. It was 108 years ago, back when Teddy Roosevelt was US President, since the Cubs won their last World Series. Last week, when the final out was recorded, and the Cubs were world champs, Cubs left fielder Ben Zobrist jumped... Full story

  • BETTY JOE LORRAINE (MASON) SALVAGNI

    Nov 9, 2016

On November 8, 2016 Betty Jo Lorraine (Mason) Salvagni went home to be with our Lord to begin a new life with her deceased loved ones in heaven. Recently, Betty ("Mom") was asked, "What would you like said about your life?" She replied, "She was born; she lived; she died; and she had a good life." This was a humble statement by someone who through her life touched so many lives with her beautiful caring and loving spirit. Betty knew and understood that the longer one lives, the more the person...
