    Hi Folks, We held last week’s meeting at Bordon’s in Whitehall. We approved the Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan for Jefferson County. DES Coordinator, Doug Dodge has done a lot of work on this and has involved folks from all over the County. We held the final Public Hearing before we decide whether to put the creation of the Ambulance District on the ballot later this year. If we do decide to go forward, Clerk and recorder, Bonnie Ramey will open a 145 day filing period for folks who may want to run for the Trustee positions for the District. Bonn...

    The Jefferson County Commission will decide later this month if local residents will have an opportunity to vote for or against the creation of the Jefferson Valley Rural Ambulance District. The deadline for the public protest form mailed to real property owners within the district in March was May 15.     It was an unusually brief regular meeting Monday night for the Whitehall Town Council. The Council concluded the majority of their regular monthly meeting in a little over 30 minutes before adjourning into executive session. After around 40 minutes the Council returned, stated they discussed pending litigation, but no decision was made.     Officials at Barrick Golden Sunlight mine are expecting to be on target for production in the second quarter of 2017. At the Community Transition Advisory Committee meeting last Thursday, Mine General Manager Dan Banghart reported the production in April was 3,054 ounces, slightly ahead of the target of 3,000. He said they really need to be in the 4,000-ounce range, but had a shorter mill run last month. He said in May and June the mill runs will be longer to get them back on track. Following their regular monthly meeting last week, new member Jeff Briggs was sworn in for a three-year term on the board. Briggs will take over for former board member and longtime educator Angie Davis.     A 24-year-old Whitehall resident pleaded guilty last week to a charge of providing false reports to law enforcement stemming from a self-inflicted shooting incident April 15 in Whitehall. Frederick Webb made an appearance last week in Jefferson County Justice Court in Boulder. After pleading guilty to the misdemeanor charge, he was fined $285.     The Golden Sunlight Mine submitted an application March 31 to amend their operating permit, with the possibility of extending the life of the mine up to three years with the proposed underground Apex Project. According to the BLM, the current workforce predictions for the project are for 50 mine employees and 100 contractors, a slight increase from the existing workforce.     A shooting Saturday night in Whitehall is currently under investigation. Jefferson County Undersheriff Mike Johnson told the Ledger the department responded to a call of a shooting April 15 shortly after 11 p.m. According to the weekly Jefferson County police log, deputies responded to the call at 601 East Legion Avenue. Johnson said a 24-year-old male with a gunshot wound was transported to the hospital by Jefferson Valley EMS and Rescue.
