Dear Editor, We would like to thank Freedom Floral for donating certain types of flowers to the First and Second graders in the Summer School program at Whitehall Elementary. With such inquisitiveness, the students loved learning about the parts of a flower by actually dissecting the flowers. Hands-on learning is one of the best teaching methods and the students really enjoyed their experiences. The bonus was the tulips were full of pollen for the students to observe. Thank you again, Freedom...

Perhaps one (or both) of the two articles previously printed in the Ledger has piqued your interest. Or perchance you saw Karen Ranta's "enchanting" display at the fabulous Arbor Day celebration hosted by the Whitehall Garden Club. Maybe that sprinkling of fairy dust has settled in your imagination and you are looking for a creative outlet. The Enchanted Forest Faire is coming to Whitehall on Saturday, June 24th and the sponsors are encouraging the community to build a home or establishment...
The Whitehall Garden Club (WGC) held its last meeting of 2022 on Wednesday, December 7th. Hostesses Mary Baughn and Evelyn Edmisten treated those in attendance to a "from scratch" feast. A hot potato casserole, two varieties of homemade jam to top homemade yeast rolls (cue the music – I like bread and butter, I like toast and jam...), fruited banana bread, and my personal favorite, soft chewy molasses cookies (pretty sure I had three, but fortunately no one was counting!) A beautiful garland o...
WOW, WHITEHALL!! You are beyond amazing! The Whitehall Garden Club may have shaken out their aprons, wiped down the tables, and swept the floor, but their giddy smiles remain. The Community was given the opportunity to BAKE, BID (on), and BUY PIE, and pie oh pie did they ever!!! Thank you so much for making the Fall Festival Pie for Non-Profit booth so very successful. It had its most profitable year to date, and most nonprofits were designated as recipients. Forty pies were donated to the...

Dear Editor, The town I moved from had an online forum for its citizens to RANT and RAVE, but I believe this platform will suffice for the same purpose. I have both RANTS and RAVES for the Rescuers and Survivors Fair hosted by the Whitehall Community Library last Thursday. First, the RAVES, lest you become so indignant over my RANTS you see red, lose focus, and cannot see your way to the end of this letter, missing the all-important RAVES. Nothing but RAVES to the nine teens who have spent the better part of the last four months preparing for...

That is next week! As it will be May, our weather will be heating up which is crucial for composting. This is a very timely program. The program will include an actual DEMONSTRATION. That’s right, Kaleena Miller of MSU Extension is going to lay down a tarp, measure out the essential ing...
The Whitehall Garden Club (WGC) members met on March 2 and were greeted by a delightful array of scrumptious goodies to start all of us off in the right direction (minus the blown circuit). Thank you to Dorie Westhoven and Diane Ward for freshly baked (and homegrown) rhubarb cake, lovely home-canned peaches, deviled eggs and fruit k-bobs! We were like hummingbirds flitting from one flower-shaped cookie to the next. Happy tummies make happy listeners and we had quite the opportunity to listen...
