That expectation is reflected in Article V, Section 11(5) of the Montana Constitution, which states: "No appropriation shall be made for religious, charitable, industrial, educational, or benevolent purpose to any private individual, private association, or private corporation not under...

Whenever many of us reflect on the 1776 Declaration, we often consider this paragraph: "We hold...

Montana’s prison population is exploding. In 2000, we had about 2,550 inmates in Montana. Today? Roughly 5,000. Congratulations Montana. We doubled prison. Why? You will hear the usual hits. Immigrants. Mexican drug cartels Montana’s growing population. Republicans who voted with democrats in the Legislature. But the biggest reason? Governor Greg Gianforte. No, he wasn’t getting tough on crime. Easier than that. Slicker too. He just changed the Parole Board. That’s all it took to create a silent earthquake. Montana law provides that the Gov...

It means more time outside with our families, more biking, swimming, hiking, camping, and travel, and more opportunities to enjoy the places that make our communities special. But as a trauma physician, I also know summer brings a predictable rise in preventable injuries, especially among children. Every year, emergency departments see families whose summer plans changed in an instant because of a crash, fall, drowning, heat-related illness or other injury that may have been...
The American Red Cross is declaring a national emergency blood shortage as blood supplies around the country fell nearly 25% in June. On top of that, busy schedules and the seasonal loss of school blood drives are driving the decline which c...
