  • The Hall of Famers: Part I Jeanne McNulty King Inducted

MONTANA SPORTS INFORMATION, Montana Sports Information|Nov 1, 2023

Whitehall native Jeanne McNulty-King was recently inducted into the 2023 Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame. Here, in this two-part story, you'll get an inside look at the life of a Hall of Famer. It's a July morning in Coeur d'Alene and Jeanne McNulty-King is on the go. On the move. Making things happen, making dreams come true. Just another day in her world. She's been up since 5 a.m. It's part of the deal when you're an agent and you have basketball players in Europe needing your help, coaches and...

  • Thought Provokers: 11/1/2023

    Nov 1, 2023

The number of people born in the same year as you is always decreasing. Going bald wouldn’t be nearly as bad if people lost their hair from the sides more than the top. A perfect human is almost a robot while a perfect robot is almost human. In the fast food industry, chicken fingers are a lie. You can eat a bunch of bananas without eating a bunch of bananas, but you can’t eat a bunch of bananas without eating a bunch of bananas. You can tell a lot about a person based on what part of their pants wears out first. People only separate the...

  • Dear Editor: Your Vote Does Count

    JIM BUTERBAUGH|Nov 1, 2023

Dear Editor, Our country was built on the Constitution and Bill of Rights. It cannot survive the days when the government places itself above the people it governs. Our representatives that we elect are meant to be just that, OUR representatives. Not Washington's. The Governor we elect is OUR Governor, not Washington's representative. If you have any doubts about the wonders of our life under the laws that our forefathers created, look at other countries. Look at the life they have today. Look at the life they have lived in history. Skim throug...

  • Dear Editor: Not Deterred

    DON LEPINSKY|Nov 1, 2023

Dear Editor, I recently traveled out of state visiting family returning to find a sign I posted on my property destroyed. The sign, posted along the eastbound lane of I-90, stated "Embrace Democracy - Reject Trumpism." I salvaged a portion of the sign and re-erected it. I am disappointed that there are those who would commit an act of violence in order to suppress First Amendment rights of free speech because they do not agree with opposing views. However, suppressing different opinions is one of the decaying pillars of Trumpism, so I am not...

  • Op Ed: A Productive Legislative Session for Hunters and Landowners

Senators Hinebauch. Bob Brown. and Mike Lang|Nov 1, 2023

Hunting season has arrived! As hunters flock to the hills in pursuit of Montana's treasured big game species, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the good work that was done in this spring's legislative session for hunters, landowners, and conservationists alike. Wildlife issues have frequently been overcome with intense division in previous legislative sessions. 2023 was different. Various stakeholders that are often in sharp disagreement on wildlife and land management policies managed to set aside their differences and work...

  • JVFA Announces Christmas Show Cancellation

    MICHELE FRANICH|Nov 1, 2023

Jefferson Valley Fine Arts (JVFA) will not be conducting a Christmas Festival exhibit this year, as in the past. Although we had great artist participation last Festival, there was very little foot traffic. The logistics of providing a one-day show in the middle of winter is difficult for everyone involved and so regrettably the decision was made to cancel this show. We are looking for additional opportunities to provide exhibits throughout the year and more will be forthcoming on that in the future. Please note, however, the Frontier Days...

    RITA BROWN, Whitehall Ledger|Nov 1, 2023

OCTOBER 28, 1998 Improved communication between town employees and town elected officials, and a clearer delineation of duties and responsibilities were two of the suggestions for improved town council productivity discussed during a special Whitehall Town Council meeting on October 20. For the past few years, through two different town administrations, relationships and the working environment among the mayor, council, and employees had been strained, and at times close to volatile. MSA account holders may deposit up to $4,500 to use for eligible medical and long-term health care expenses. A person with taxable income over $19,800 could save approximately $304 in state income taxes by opening an MSA and depositing...

  • How Student Athletes Can Stay Safe and Avoid Injuries

    TANNER GOOCH, Intermountain Health|Nov 1, 2023

Student-athletes are currently in the middle of their fall seasons and will be transitioning to winter sports very soon. St. James Sports Medicine would like to remind athletes and their parents how to stay safe and avoid injuries. For many athletes stretching and hydration seem like prominent areas of focus, but nutrition and properly taking care of injuries can be major factors in performance, as well as the athletes’ overall health. “Student-athletes in high school can be dealing with fatigue and small injuries during the fall season, so...

  • Connecting Point: Names Have Significance

    BILL LANES|Nov 1, 2023

For some, naming a child is a thoughtful task; for others, tradition plays a much larger role. As my wife and I were expecting the birth of our four children, we took time in the months leading up to that significant event to explore name options for each of them. We explored meanings behind names, and examples seen in the Bible and considered past family members as kind of a balanced approach. I cherish the memories of those moments, with my hand resting on the womb of their mother, filled with joy and laughter. In Zachariah’s and...
