Friday was a perfect day for skiing at Great Divide North of Helena. All of the students of the school boarded the school buses and made it a day of fun in the sun. Extras tagged along, too. Nice it was Friday. They could sleep in on Saturday. Trish Reiss headed up the planning and decorating crew for the Valentine Dinner at the Cardwell Church. It’s once again time for the annul Winter Blast Gun, Knife, and Antique Show. The popular annual event is scheduled to take place February 17 to 19 at the Whitehall Community Center. The show is sponsored the Whitehall VFW and American Legion Post, and the Weapons Collectors Society of Montana. Two Cardwell students will be moving on to the upcoming Jefferson County Spelling Bee. Eight grader Wyatt Biggers and sixth grader Samantha Clay both will have the chance to test their skills with students from the local area after qualifying last Wednesday at the annual Cardwell School Spelling Bee. The auditions for the Mining City Star are coming to Whitehall. Local residents will get to see if they have what it takes to win the all ages and all genre musical competition. Not much happening this week. The school kids did make their ski trip to Great Divide last Thursday. The blizzard conditions didn’t deter them at all. Legends Bar and Grill owner Tammy Baxter has been wanting to do something at the business that will break up the monotony of the winter months. She's hoping a painting party scheduled for next week will do the trick. Wednesday, February 5, 1992 Cub Scouts in Pack No. 24 were recently given a genius kit which consisted of a gallon can full of miscellaneous items: pipe cleaners, nuts and bolts, Styrofoam cups, marbles and more and were told to make whatever they wanted to make. A couple of weeks ago, Donna Clark’s daughter, Shelley, passed away quite suddenly. When seeking to have the obituary published in the Montana Standard we discovered that depending on the day of the week, the cost would vary. For instance, instead of $79.00 ($89.00 with a photo), it was going to $108.00 for just the obituary!! We understood that that price included the photo, (which was sent but never received). A record number of teams competed last weekend at the 15th annual Cori Bishop, Dave McLaughlin, Steve Dyson Memorial Pool Tournament in Whitehall. Dwayne McClanahan of the Whitehall Pool League said a total of 51 teams participated, and the winning team of Dan Hamper and Lance Stanchfield received $1,000. For local resident Allissa Christensen, dancing is in her blood. Christensen comes from a long line of dancers, and likes to say she was raised in a dance studio. She is now sharing both her love for and experience in dance with the residents of Whitehall and surrounding area.
