With the Holidays just around the corner, the Whitehall Food Pantry received a significant donation from the Knights of Columbus Council 8375 in Whitehall. According to Knights of Columbus Secretary Bob Casagrande, the organization decided at their November meeting that with the Holiday season coming up, they would donate $1,500 to the Whitehall Food Pantry, and $500 to the Ennis Food Bank. Whitehall Public Transportation Director Paula Hippert was busy at her desk Monday morning when she heard a loud beeping noise coming from outside the building. Next February, Whitehall residents Ed and Betty Handl will be making a trip to central Cuba to take part in a mission trip organized by the Methodist Church. The Handls will arrive in Havana February 9 and travel to Camp Canaan, 200 miles to the east in Central Cuba. There, they plan to refurbish a retreat center that serves various missions to the island nation. After a successful inaugural event, the Whitehall Rotary Club Harvest Dance is back for year two. The dance is scheduled to take place Sunday, October 30 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Whitehall Community Center. The dance will feature the Little Boulder River Band. A large crowd made their way to the Borden's Building last Thursday for the annual Jefferson Valley Community Foundation Celebrate Community Grant Awards event. Laurie Powell Steel and Jennifer Powell Murga were raised in Paraguay where their parents, Bob and Glenda Powell, were missionaries. As adults, they lived on two different continents - North America and South America.
